Bali. The island often referred to as paradise & the island almost everyone who watched Eat Pray Love wants to visit. The island is located in Indonesia, east of Java. The largest city & capital is Denpasar. The population at the last census was roughly 4.5 million & last year a reported 5.5 million tourists visited Bali.
Having said this, I’m fairly certain a large number of my readers have been to this island or someone in your social circle has been because this is a very popular destination. Truthfully, I was a little skeptical about going because I thought it might be overrated. I was wrong, it wasn’t overrated. I wish I had more time to spend there & I definitely will be back in the future.
I arrived in the morning & got to the hotel about an hour later. The weather was great, not too hot & slightly overcast. I was exhausted so I decided to take a nap. The nap turned into a full on sleep & I woke up in the afternoon. Great. I travel halfway around the world & I sleep the day away. I got up & got ready to see a bit of Bali.
I walked towards the beach in the hopes of finding some good food & something to drink. I was really happy to find a promenade along the beach. This was really cool because there were stalls & restaurants scattered all the way along. So I walked.
I walked for a short while & got to a point where I realized that there weren’t other people around. Odd, but maybe it was normal. I also noticed some music getting louder. I thought it was strange that someone would be blaring an Ed Sheeran song as it didn’t really have the island feel. There were a few trees on my left & a wall on my right so I couldn’t see exactly what was going on. Until I got to where the trees & wall stopped. On my left – a bride, groom & an officiant. On my right – a bridal party & a congregation. I walked into a wedding ceremony. I was wearing flip flops & swimming trunks. I was so embarrassed that I just continued walking as fast as I could & didn’t turn to look at anything else. I couldn’t understand why they would be having a wedding in a place where anyone could interrupt. I just hope I wasn’t the only person to have done that.
I continued walking & found a restaurant facing the sea so I decided to have something to eat & enjoy the view. After all, I didn’t want to be walking back anytime soon. I sat & watched the sun set. All while mosquitoes went to town on me. Most of them getting me between my fingers. I can’t explain how frustrating that itch is.
Overall, it was a good day with beautiful scenery & delicious food… and one more embarrassing story for me to share.
Keep traveling, keep safe.

I love Bali Dan and am glad you liked it too. Kristen and I ( she must be the only Australian who hasn’t been there) are heading there as our last stop on the way home next April. Just got back from Sri Lanka which reminds me of a Bali in many ways. Highly recommended if you get the chance.

I loved this story. Especially the mosquito part and crashed wedding part, for some reason. Maybe because it’s a good reminder, once again that even in paradise there are mosquitos and crashed weddings. :))

Mosquito bites between fingers are the worst! with almost the same ranking as a bite on knuckles or ankles 😀
Your entrance during the wedding must have been super super awkward! 😀 Shocking for the people attending the wedding though 😀
